FANGIRL POST!
Samurai Warriors Chronicles is a dream game for Sakon/Mitsunari shippers. TK decided to give up the awkward attempt to pimp SW3 Mitsunari to the man who historically loathed him (Kiyomasa) and hence in SWC we can concentrate on the good old epic *cough*canon*cough* SakonMitsu pairing. Their relationship was already lovey dovey in SW3 despite of the sad Kiyomasa plot line, but SWC made their love even more obvious. (Don’t worry, Kiyomasa isn’t left crying alone in a corner; Muneshige claimed him as his own. And Kiyo openly loves Nene. ;)
Alright… With shaky fangirl hands, trembling with fangasms I caught this piece of delicious dialogue on video from the tiny screen of Nintendo 3DS:

Nari is so in love that he can’t hold his own tongue… *_* He’s become more human (even humane) since SW2 – without losing his unique personality that makes him more complex and interesting than Hesus Ieyasu.
Ano… did this game have some other purpose than BL? Absolutely not! Hack & Slash has become just SLASH! That’s why the Eastern Army is goddamn boring with weeping Ieyasu gently killing everyone in the name of peace without once feeling up his Hanzo nor riding his Tadakatsu. Maybe they’ll do something about that in SW4…

Have they actually made it official? Sakon/Mitsunari? Because I don’t understand Japanese so well so I don’t know if the sources are real or not ^^;
I don’t think they’ve made an official announcement that Sakon and Mitsunari are a gay couple, keeping the BL between the lines is sweeter and won’t bother the male fans of this game series. :3
I shouldn’t post more spoilers here if someone wants to start their own Sakonmitsu SWC romance soon, but I think everything they say is evidence of official BL!
Maybe I’ll write all the interactions down on a separate file for anti-Nintendo people who are interested but won’t get the games…
Oo I didn’t think Koei would announce it but there has been so many BL hints, for the girl fans of course :P

It’s officially my favorite game now! There’s so much juicy BL dialogue between many characters that I will be inspired for months to come. :D Anyway, I added a link to the post, I typed up all Sakon x Mitsunari interactions for those who want them but can’t get the game.

Goodness me, thank you VERY MUCH for typing all of that up! I’ve always thought of these two as being basically canon, and this only strengthens my opinion on the matter. Simply amazing.

While I love that TC actually put this into the game (and I do love shipteasing!) I think it’s a bit misleading to call this canon, considering their relationship is pretty open to interpretation and is seen as something supporting what we’ve seen in SW3.
Not only that, going by this logic, Muneshige/Mitsunari would be ‘canon’ as much as Kiyomasa/Mitsunari and so on, and while I enjoy the suggestions as much as anyone else, it still seems kind of far-fetched. Especially since the translation seems to overplay and misinterpret the original Japanese at some points, but then again, I guess Koei knew what they were doing, aiming this to the ladies :P
Loved that moment, all the same, had a good laugh at it, even if it felt like Mitsunari was trying to do what Kanetsugu and Yukimura encouraged of him, and that is being appreciative of his friends, more than anything in a romantic context.
I hope you’ve unlocked/read the whole story? Of course we all see what we want to see, but for those who love this pairing, SWC has to be the most satisfying Musou game so far. I mean, what kind of a man would call an other man ‘pretty’? Why would Mitsunari offer up his whole livelihood just to HAVE Sakon, despite of ‘not needing a strategist’? And then the things they say… “I’m yours, I belong to you, come back to me alive…” It’s just pure honey to all fujoshi ears, calling it platonic love or ‘normal friendship between two grown men’ would be such a waste. XD
My logic to call this pairing ‘canon’ naturally comes from all this lovey dovey interaction (even in Mitsunari’s last words Sakon is the last name he whispers, right after Lord Hideyoshi), and from the hard work that TK does to keep those two inseparable in their media: http://mitsunari11.com *___*
But I guess it’s for the best that TK keeps it on what you call ‘shipteasing’ level and those not interested in BL or this pairing can turn a blind eye to all the delicious innuendo. ;D
I’ve unlocked all the events and own all the games in the original Japanese/English, and have been a fan of the game since SW1. Even in Samurai Warriors 2 when they were first introduced, it only felt like a pure bond between retainer-lord, something I could get behind. It’s always nice to see BL art on them (who doesn’t!) though I’ve yet to see it written well in fiction, sadly, since Mitsunari is always turned into a girl and just not the character we see in the game.
Also, those lines aren’t entirely 100% correctly translated. This is the same translating group that translated a notable moment where Ranmaru Mori is dying in SW1 and clearly saying “Lord Nobunaga, Lord Mitsuhide…Lord Nobunaga” into “Farewell, Lord Mitsuhide.” While in the spirit of the context, it’s not wrong, you can see what I mean is inaccuracy. Though Sakon does canonly call Mitsunari pretty, which always amuses me :) However, there are parts where Mitsunari himself says that he doesn’t like being treated like a child, and when you see him during the “Peace at Last” chapters, his dependence on Sakon seems really familial, at least to me. Though I can also see how it can turn romantic too, since Mitsunari’s lost his family by then too. (Which is sad, considering Kiyomasa and Masanori still cherish him even if they can’t say it any more- have you ever played SW3Z? In there Mitsunari, as he dies, tells Masanori as he defeats him that he was glad he got to fight him. It was so sad ;_; )
But yeah, calling it canon is just somewhat far-fetched, as your mileage may vary and I’m not saying you can’t have it (because, hell, it’s THERE and it’s cute to see!) But just insisting on the canon-ness is counterproductive, you know? I hope I didn’t sound very rain-on-your-parade, it was just an observation. :D;

“If it sounds like BL, it is BL.” >:3 From my point of view there’s no reason to NOT see something as romantic if it can be taken that way, after all, that’s where my inspiration comes from. And that’s why I stay with my opinions on my BL fanart site where I shouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings. *sweatdrops*
But I guess the point of your comments is that is it really okay for me to voice out my strong belief that TK has made Sakon x Mitsunari canon with that piece of dialogue? It sounds like a LOVE CONFESSION to me, but maybe it’s vague enough to be taken as something totally innocent, something that I can’t imagine with my corrupted mind.
To make sure that the official English translation doesn’t twist the truth and cloud my mind, I have commissioned a translation of all the juicy pieces of Sakon Mitsunari dialogue from Japanese to English. I will update the post when it’s done.
It’s just very promising that Japanese fans blog about them being ‘HOMO’ too. *drooling* Like Fox Mulder, we WANT to believe.
LOL, I know the feeling. I love it when things are ambiguous enough to be taken in any way possible. And of course it’s okay for you to think that it’s true as a pairing, since that’s where fanart and our fanworks come from!
But, I am glad you didn’t take it badly as I wasn’t meaning it badly. I just figure, in fanworks it’s fine to make it totally happen, but at least to me ‘canon’ means that they’ve actually said something or confirmed that a pair is together. Keep up the good work, though, and thank you for the transcripts!
No, you really do have a point, I definitely use the word ‘canon’ here too lightly from the whole fandom perspective, my own perspective is very narrow because this is my OTP and I finally got the evidence *I* need to see them as a canon pairing. *_* I seem to be unable to shut up about it, but I’ll try to hold my tongue for now and talk more about it soon with some fanart. XD
I can imagine that TK canonizing this pairing might hurt those who want their Mitsunari with some other (younger? prettier?) man, I wish them a happy BL hobby with any pairing and not a forceful conversion into Sakonmitsu shipping! I too like Mitsunari with Kanetsugu and/or Yukimura and Sakon with all of those three – or Inahime (but oh my… now that Sakon admits he’s simply polite when calling Ina attractive, I can’t ship them anymore!)
